The Core Team

Ron Neuenberger, President & CEO

Ron Neuenberger started in this industry with the Veterans Administration in 1984, where he wrote software in MUMPS for the VA’s DHCP, which preceded the current VistA system.

Ron then moved on to Signal Transcription as their Chief Technology Officer for nine years.  At Signal, he architected and developed the transcription platform that would be adopted by 6 of the top 10 hospitals in the nation.  Signal would be acquired by MedQuist to form the basis of their transcription platform.

Ron then left Signal and founded Angelfire.com. At one point in 1998, Angelfire was in the top eight web sites in the world and was consistently in the top-20 most visited web sites, which required the site to be of exceptional capacity — with daily page views in excess of 75 million.

A year later Ron and Bill would go on to start BayScribe with a single goal: develop the most robust, reliable and affordable dictation and transcription system available. Ron has over 25 years of experience in this industry and as President/CEO, he leads the BayScribe team.

Bill Michel, EVP & Chief Architect

Bill Michel holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Salisbury University.  He began his career at NASA where he developed scientific, mission-critical and real-time software applications for NASA meteorological programs for 18 years.

Bill worked with Ron as an independent software consultant for Signal Transcription for five years developing transcription software and quality assurance automation products.  Bill went on to co-found Angelfire.com with Ron in 1995 where he was integral to the Angelfire project. Bill was responsible for software engineering and site optimization enabling Angelfire to maintain its position as a consistent, top-20 most-visited site on the web for four years during its explosive initial growth period.

Bill’s vast experience in mission critical applications was a critical asset in developing the scalability of the BayScribe system.  In 1999, Bill co-founded BayScribe with Ron and wrote the code that is the foundation of BayScribe.  Michel’s key experience culminates in the extraordinary efficiency, speed and accuracy of the web-based BayScribe system. As EVP/Chief Architect, Bill is a driving force for continuing product innovations, and a true ‘rocket-scientist’.

Brent Smith, EVP, Voice

Brent Smith has a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri Rolla and worked as an engineer/programmer until 1994 when he joined the then startup company, Digital Voice (DVI).

At Digitial Voice, Brent wrote the Windows version of DVI software, which was quite revolutionary for its day. The product was very successful and many large hospitals and transcription services standardized on it during that time.  In 1997, Brent was promoted to Chief Technology Officer and would develop the VoiceWave software, which was also quite popular among transcription companies and is also still in use today. Brent also worked with a number of companies such as IBM and Philips Corporation in integrating these digital dictation platforms with their voice recognition software.

In January 2001, Brent would resign as CTO of DVI to join BayScribe. Brent brings a unique mix of talents to our company and has been an integral part of the BayScribe development team. As EVP of Voice, Brent is a driving force for continuing dictation and speech recognition innovations.
